Pimmit Hills Day a Success!

If you weren't able to make it to our annual Pimmit Hills Day, you missed a great time. The weather was perfect, there were booths, food and games, and McGruff the Crime Dog along with our local McLean police stopped by to visit. Click here to see photos from the event.

Thank you to organizers Sarah Rock (PHCA) and Marie Davis (Tysons Lions Club) for all their work on the day and also a huge thanks to those who volunteered to help out.

Give Your Input on Fairfax County Transportation Funding Shortfall

Fairfax County is facing a transportation projects funding shortfall of $3 billion over the next 10 years.
The County has planned nine public meetings starting September 24 through October 11 to discuss and get citizen input. There is also a survey to gather input about what the county should do to resolve the issue.

There are numerous sources of funding that could be used to fund transportation including a sales tax on service, an income tax increase, a meals tax and more. For a longer list of funding sources see: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/cdot/funding/

The meetings closest to our neighborhood are:

Can you help at Pimmit Hills Day?

From Sarah Rock, PHCA Three-Year Director:

I'd like to invite you to join us at Pimmit Hills Day on September 22 at Olney Park. This year we've arranged for a moonbounce for the kids and McGruff the Crime Dog will stop by as well. The Lions Club will also be there cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs.

We still need some extra hands to make the day run smoothly. If you can spare 30 minutes, we need help with the cake walk, the moonbounce and the kids' games.

If you can help, contact me or sign up here.

Thanks so much for helping make Pimmit Hills a great neighborhood!

Regards,
Sarah Rock

This news update was sent to those on the Pimmit Hills Email List:

Our next Pimmit Hills Citizens Association (PHCA) meeting is scheduled for 7:30 pm next Tuesday, September 4 at the Pimmit Hills Adult Learning Center, 7510 Lisle Avenue. The PHCA Board will be giving an update about what has been happening in and around our neighborhood since we last met.

Keynote Speaker - Lynne Corn
The September meeting highlight will be a 30 minute presentation by Lynne Corn, who lives near the corner of Griffith and Lisle. She has undertaken an effort to create a minimal emission household that reduces adverse environmental effects. The presentation will discuss energy and water saving measures including rain garden installation, county assistance services and home additions.

Save Pimmit Barns Presentation
A second presentation at the September meeting will be undertaken by Lesley Stone of the Save Pimmit Barns Group. She and the group's leaders will be presenting the historical significance of the Pimmit Barn and the extensive efforts they have undertaken to preserve the Barn for neighborhood use. The presentation will be followed by a question time for all residents in attendance.

Status of Pimmit Barn Issues
8-16-12

Dear Pimmit Hills Resident:

I am writing to provide the status of the options that are being considered for the Pimmit Barn.

By way of background, in 2011, I was advised that the Park Authority had proposed to sell the barn property. Under an agreement with the County, the Park Authority is required to offer its property to County agencies before disposing of the property.

When that offer was made, the Community Services Board (“CSB”) advised the Park Authority that the CSB wanted the property to develop as a group residential home for no more than six individuals with intellectual disabilities.
