The Friends of the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library are an active and enthusiastic group. They give countless hours annually to raise funds to support the Library. They are especially eager to support programs and other activities which encourage children and their parents/caregivers to make full use of Library services. The staff and the public are most appreciative of their generosity. They are actively involved in supporting the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library, the Fairfax County library system, and other literacy programs through the sale of donated used books and media. They conduct quarterly book sales at the library in March, June, September, and December. They maintain ongoing sale books in the library lobby. They also sell online.

The Friends accept all books that are in good condition, except those that are out-of-date in subjects such as medicine, law, computer science. Also accepted are DVDs, CDs, audio books, and jigsaw puzzles, but do not accept magazines. Small donations can be placed in the bin just inside the front door whenever the library is open. For larger donations, please contact the Friends group to arrange the donation.

The Friends of Tysons-Pimmit began when the Pimmit Hills Citizens Association (PHCA) sought approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 1965 for a community plan that would introduce a library within the Pimmit Hills Community Planning Sector.

Persistence over the next nine years resulted in the first library facility leasing space on the ground floor of the Peachtree Apartment complex on Route 7, one block east of the current location. The Friends were organized formally in 1972 under the guidance of Carl and Ann Zimmer (Carl Zimmer was the PCHA President for many years). they continued to nurture the organization for many years.

The Friends first promoted the establishment of a community library in 1972. The regional library opened in 1985. The Friends have supported this regional library from groundbreaking in 1983 to the grand opening in 1985 and through the celebration of the 10th anniversary in 1995 and the 20th anniversary in 2005 to the present.

As library volunteers, the Friends assist staff with circulation duties and many special projects which help to draw the library and community together. They serve as 'goodwill ambassadors' and advocate the library's growth an enrichment.
