Picking Up Pet Waste

From a Leonard Rd resident:
I woke up to two piles of dog waste on my lawn last week on two separate occasions.

Did you know that Fairfax County has a "pooper scooper" law? Pet owners who violate the County’s pooper scooper law may incur a fine up to $250.

Pet waste left on the grass makes its way to storm drains every time it rains. Storm drains lead to lakes or streams that ultimately lead to our drinking water supply. Pet waste may carry disease-causing organisms, which make water unsafe for swimming and costly to treat for drinking.

Petition to Save Anthony's Restaurant

Several Pimmit Hills residents have shared news regarding the uncertain future of Anthony's Restaurant in Falls Church. The lease for Anthony's Restaurant expires in March 2013 and the owner has plans to redevelop the lot into a mixed use project including residential apartments and a Harris Teeter grocery store. A patron of the restaurant has started a petition to the Falls Church City Council urging them to save Anthony's Restaurant and find a new home in the City. If you'd like to sign the petition, here is the link: http://www.change.org/petitions/falls-church-city-council-save-anthony-s-restaurant

Poop in the Parks

From a Hillside Drive resident

On Sat. Oct. 13, we helped clean up our neighborhood parks, thanks to all who attended. Great job! Those of us that cleaned up Pimmit View Park noticed something odd about the trash we were collecting from the woods and the creek. There was a lot of bagged dog poop that had been thrown into the woods or creek! So, what is the point of picking up after your dog if you are just going to harm the environment and possibly kill wildlife by putting it in plastic bags and throwing it in the creek?

Don't Block the Sidewalks

From a Hileman Road Resident:

I've noticed recently while jogging that a lot of people are parking their cars in their driveways so that it blocks the sidewalk.

This is a ticketable offense in Fairfax County. It also forces pedestrians to cross into the street, which on certain roads can be very unsafe.

Similarly, some residents are also blocking the sidewalks with their trash bins.

For the safety of pedestrians and residents, please do not block the sidewalks, thank you!

Your Dog's Poop in Your Neighbor's Garbage Can

From Pimmit Hills Resident Di:

I recently discovered 5 bags of dog poop in my garbage can which I just had replaced for a broken one from the collection company. I was wondering why the can was smelling so bad since it was just new - and surprise! I don't have dogs, so it's obviously not mine. Since I had been gone for 2 weeks the cans had just been sitting at the carport empty - besides the dog poop bags.

I asked my next door neighbor if they might have seen anything and they told me that it had happened to them before as well. According to them "people use the cans as public trash cans and dumb their dog's poop bags in there if they are not pulled up from the curb fast enough."
