Build-Your-Own Rain Barrel Workshop

Rain Barrel 1

Pimmit Hills Citizens Association and the Fairfax County Stormwater Planning Division sponsored a build-your-own rain barrel workshop on July 9. The rain barrels were free to Pimmit Hills residents thanks to a community grant from Transurban and Fluor (the HOT Lanes developer).

In a matter of hours Pimmit Hills residents turned 50 recycled pickle and olive barrels into sturdy rain barrels to collect rainwater from downspouts. More photos from the workshop can be found on the PHCA Facebook page.

Learn more about rain barrels and sign up for future workshops at the Northern Virginia Soil and Water conservation District website.

Door-to-Door Solicitors

From McLean District Fairfax County Police Officer Patrick Lucas:

Please be advised that we are beginning to see the door to door solicitors already. I was out last evening and confirmed that the recent group that has been in the County Soliciting for Sunshine Subscriptions Agency is actually staying in Baltimore County Maryland at a hotel. They do not have proper licensing as of yesterday to conduct business in the County nor do any of their sales agents have proper licensing to go door to door.

Please report any door to door sales people as soon as you can so we may have the opportunity to introduce ourselves to them.
