Dear Dranesville Resident,
I hope that this message finds you safe.
In the wake of this historic “derecho” weather event there are many in the Dranesville district and throughout the County that remain without power, many intersections that are still dark and many routes still impassable. Some communities may still have "boil" water restrictions in effect.
For those of you whose homes are still without power:
- The County has a number of cooling centers open to you and your family. I have attached (see below) a list of these facilities. For a list of cooling shelters available throughout Virginia, visit http://virginiaderecho.tumblr.com/.
- Dominion Power is tracking outages throughout their customer area. Visit Dominion Power’s interactive power outage map at http://outagemap.dom.com/DomComFlexOutageViewer/index.html. Some addresses are not yet being provided with estimated power restoration times.
- If you are staying with others and would like to be notified by telephone when power in your home is restored:
- Report the outage at your actual address by calling 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357).
- The automated call menu will give you an opportunity to request a phone call when power is restored, either during waking hours only or at any time, day or night.
For more information on road conditions and real-time traffic information, go to www.511Virginia.org. To report a road problem, call VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-367-7623.
Some residents are being advised to boil water before drinking. Click here for a map showing the defined area.

Power has been restored at our office at 6649-A Old Dominion Drive and we will be fully staffed tomorrow. Please call us if you have any questions or concerns at (703)-356-0551.
I am gratified to hear stories of neighbors, families and friends helping one another get through this difficult time. Please continue to keep your eyes and ears open for others in need.
