Helicopter Noise Forum in McLean on July 26

Tired of low-flying helicopters rattling your house and windows? Congressman Frank Wolf and Delegate Barbara Comstock are hosting a Helicopter Noise Forum in McLean on Thursday, July 16 at 7:30 pm at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Drive, McLean, VA.

Also hosting the forum are our Dranesville Supervisor John Foust and Behram Shroff of the McLean Hamlet Citizen Association.

Representatives from the following agencies will be attending:

  • FAA Regional Administrator
  • FAA Air Traffic Organization
  • Air Traffic Control Management, Reagan National Airport
  • Washington Flight Standards District Office
  • Department of Defense Representative
  • Fairfax County Police Helicopter Division
  • PHI Air Medical (Medivac)

Background:

Delegate Comstock has been working with Representative Wolf, Supervisor Foust and community groups as well as state and federal agencies to address aircraft noise in northern Virginia.

Residents of our region are bracketed by two major airports, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

Aircraft also fly out of multiple Defense Department instillations, including the Pentagon and Fort Belvoir.

In addition, county governments operate helicopters and private companies supply air medical evacuation services to regional hospitals, including Inova Fairfax.

We have been working together in recent months to ensure that residents of Fairfax County get to meet with those responsible for controlling the region's airspace, those directing aircraft from regional airports, as well as those operating low-flying helicopters.

The representatives listed above will make a presentation informing residents about how the region's airspace accommodates helicopters, what organizations are flying in the region and address questions from the audience.
