From Supervisor Foust: Power Outages and Other Storm Damage

My office is continuing to work with Dominion Virginia Power to restore power across Dranesville. We know that everyone without power is suffering, so we are committed to do everything we can to make sure that Dominion is on top of this situation.

The 'Boil Water' advisory that has been in effect for some customers of Falls Church Water has been lifted.

Power Outages and Health and Safety Issues


You can let my office know if you are still without power or if you are aware of downed trees or branches that are affecting power lines or obstructing traffic. If you are aware of a serious issue affecting the elderly, someone with health concerns, or downed power lines that are creating a serious safety risk, please contact Dominion directly at 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357) and let my office know.

As of 5 p.m. today, Dominion reported that 75,000 customers are still without power. Dominion posted this update today:

For those of you whose homes are still without power:

Dominion Virginia Power expects to restore service to 80-85 percent of customers whose power was disrupted by two days of severe storms by Tuesday night; 90-95 percent of affected customers by Thursday night, and virtually all remaining customers by Saturday night.

Dominion has more than 3,500 employees, contractors and retirees working to restore service. Another 1,500 utility workers from 13 states and Canada have arrived or are on their way to assist. Power has been restored to more than 750,000 customers since Friday evening.

Work will continue around the clock during the multi-day restoration effort.

If you are staying with others and would like to be notified by telephone when power in your home is restored, report the outage at your actual address by calling 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357).

Debris Removal

  • For trees and limbs on private property, removal is the responsibility of property owners.
  • Residents who receive county trash collection should call (703) 802-3322 to schedule a brush pickup for debris generated from the storm. Tree limbs greater than six feet long and six inches in diameter must be cut down to size to meet set out requirements.
  • Residents with private trash collectors should contact their trash hauler for instructions on how to dispose of storm debris.
  • Trees adjacent to public roads and streets, contact VDOT 703-383-8368
  • Trees on county parkland, contact the Fairfax County Park Authority at 703-324-8594
  • Trees posing a hazard to public areas, contact Urban Forestry 703-324-1770
  • The county’s two disposal facilities the I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Solid Waste Complexundefinedare open for residents to dispose of yard debris. The I-66 Transfer Station is located at 4618 West Ox Road, and the I-95 Solid Waste Complex is at 9850 Furnace Road.
  • Both facilities only accept tree branches that are 20 inches or less in diameter. There is a minimum $5 fee for residents to dispose of yard waste and brush at either of the two disposal facilities.
