CRUCIAL LIBRARY BOARD MEETING SEPT 11 (Email from Friends of Tysons-Pimmit Library)

Friends,

The struggle continues against the misguided downgrading of Fairfax County Public Libraries under radical restructuring plans which were developed and are scheduled to be implemented with almost zero input from library users and front-line library staff.

There have continued to be numerous news articles and commentaries appearing on the situation .Here are the latest. Please share with others as we continue to spread the word on this crisis in Fairfax County :

Board of Supervisors Chairman Bulova and other County leaders have begun to hear the voices of library staff, volunteers, Friends, and users who are speaking out against rushed through changes which they see as unwise and undermining the quality of the libraries they love. Bulova has called for the Betas to be postponed and for there to be genuine participation from the public and front-line staff in the planning process. It is believed that the Supervisors will address the library situation in a resolution at their Sept meeting. Many
believe that merely adjusting the existing plans is NOT enough. We need to STOP & RE-EVALUATE completely - with all stakeholders involved in every stage of the planning.

The voices saying "Stop & Re-evaluate" are growing louder and more determined with each passing day and, despite various attempts at threats and intimidation, will NOT BE SILENCED. Neither will an ongoing disinformation campaign of half-truths, evasions, and distortions succeed in distracting those who oppose both the proposed changes and the process used to produce and implement those changes.
