McLean Area AAUW Hosting Program: "The Benefits and Challenges Experienced by Women in the Military Today"

What is it like to be a female officer in the US Armed Services?  Attend the McLean Area Branch meeting of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and find out first hand from three talented women who served successfully in three separate military services.  This event is open to the public.


Program panelists:

  • Mary Melley Blissard, Air Force pilot, United Airlines pilot and mother of three children.
  • Sandy Lawrence, retired Navy Commander with over 24 years of service, first Combat Systems Officer on the USS Nimitz and deployed for six months to the Persian Gulf.
  • Mary Fuller, retired Army Colonel after close to 30 years of service, including Chief of Staff to the Army Acquisition Executive, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology.  Also on the Army Ski Team 1980-81 and was 1980 winner of the Women's Nordic/Alpine event and the 1981 Women's Nordic Champion.
Panelists will share stories of why they joined, observations about their experiences and answer questions from the audience.  Learn what it is like to have a career in a largely male community.
